39 Kitchen Organization Tips I've Learned from Three Years of Practice to Help You Eliminate Kitchen Clutter
2024-12-25 read:166

Introduction

Friends, are you often troubled by the messy arrangement of kitchen items? Can't find seasonings in cabinets, forget expiration dates of food in the refrigerator, and kitchen utensils piled up in disarray. As a housewife who didn't even know how to choose storage containers at first, after three years of exploration and practice, I've developed a set of super practical kitchen organization tips. Today I'd like to share my experiences with you.

Before getting into specific tips, I want to say that a well-organized kitchen not only improves our cooking efficiency but also makes us feel happier. When you open the cabinet and everything is neatly arranged, being able to reach whatever you need with one hand - it's a really great feeling. Moreover, a tidy kitchen is easier to keep clean and can extend the life of kitchenware and ingredients.

Seasoning Storage

Did you know? An average family of four has 26 different seasonings in their kitchen. This was what overwhelmed me at first. After repeated trials, I found that categorizing seasonings is the most efficient solution.

My method is to divide seasonings into four categories: dry powders (like salt, sugar, five-spice powder), sauces (like soy sauce, oyster sauce), spices (like star anise, cinnamon), and ready-to-eat items (like sesame seeds, crushed peanuts). Each category uses uniform storage containers with labels.

When choosing storage containers, I recommend transparent materials so you can easily see how much seasoning is left. For dry powder seasonings, it's best to choose containers with sealing rings to prevent moisture. For sauces, containers need to be leak-proof, preferably with locking mechanisms.

Refrigerator Management

When it comes to refrigerator organization, establishing a food zoning system is most important. My refrigerator is divided into six areas: the top shelf for leftovers and ready-to-eat items that need quick consumption, middle shelf for vegetables and fruits, bottom shelf for meat and seafood. The freezer is also divided into three layers: top for frozen foods, middle for leftovers, and bottom for meats.

Cookware Storage

Vertical Storage Method

I remember when I first started cooking, all the pots and pans were stacked horizontally in the cabinet. Every time I needed a pot from the bottom, I had to take everything out above it, which was very troublesome.

Classification Storage Method

Besides vertical storage, I also categorize cookware based on frequency of use. Daily-use woks and soup pots are placed in the most accessible positions, occasionally used steamers and frying pans in secondary positions, and rarely used special cookware in corners.

Tableware Organization

When it comes to tableware storage, I'm most proud of inventing the "horizontal and vertical combination method." This means storing long utensils (like chopsticks, soup spoons) vertically, and bowls and plates horizontally stacked. This method not only saves space but also protects tableware from damage.

Small Tool Storage

Magnetic Storage

Did you know that 80% of metal kitchen tools can be held by magnets? I installed a magnetic strip on the kitchen wall to hold frequently used scissors, bottle openers and other small tools, saving space while keeping them easily accessible.

Drawer Compartmentalization

For tools that can't be magnetically stored, I created detailed compartments in drawers. Using transparent storage boxes makes it easy to see where needed tools are located. I categorize tools by their use, such as cutting tools, baking tools, measuring tools, etc.

Experience Summary

Through these three years of practice, I've summarized three key points: First, storage needs to be systematic, not random. Establish a complete storage system where every item has its fixed place. This not only improves efficiency but also helps develop good habits.

Your kitchen is facing similar troubles? Why not try these methods I've shared. If you also have good storage tips, welcome to tell me in the comments. Let's create an orderly ideal kitchen together.

Through practicing these storage methods, I've deeply realized that a clean and organized kitchen not only improves cooking efficiency but also makes cooking an enjoyable thing. I hope these experiences can help you create a cooking space that makes you happy.
